Read any of Agatha Christie's books. Intriguing mysteries with H. Peroit as detective. I have read all of them and several have been made into movies.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (my favorite book!)

The Inkworld Trilogy by Cornelia Funke

Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan

The Books of Bayern by Shannon Hale

Angels and Demons by Dan Brown

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne
A great book that i would recommend is ';Whirligig'; by Paul Fleischman. It's not a novel, neither a love book, nor a scary thriller but it's interesting enough to keep you reading and, by all means, will make you think. By my standards, this book is definitely good for a teenager.
I recommend just about everything Megs did.

Ursula K Le Guin is a great author when it comes to making you think. Most of her books are fantasy but there is always an undertone to them that seems to draw from real world events and prejudices.

Earthsea Quartet is the most well know series.
How about the Left Behind series? They are full of supernatural stuff and are definitely thrillers.

there is an adult version and a teen version of the series depending on your reading level.
Try Dean Koontz. I fell in love with the Odd Thomas series. Books about a young man 19 years old who has a lead a very exciting and different life. Full of interesting facts about things and will make you crave more. I couldn't read fast enough to keep up with everything that happened and was going to happen. Also the book ';Lightning'; by Koontz is a very good book as well I think you would enjoy. Other then that I enjoyed the Harry Potter books. I have not read them but I have been told that the Twilight books are good reads as well.
