What is the best way to start to learn to dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, etc) in your teenage years?

I really want to learn to dance because it looks so cool and I feel like I could do it! I'm moderately flexible and I have some good core muscles. I'm just wondering if it's a bad idea, just out of the question, or if I should give it a shot, and if I should then how? What should i do to start to learn? What is the best way to start to learn to dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, etc) in your teenage years?
honestly, girls at my studio were accepting of the new girls, but you would most likely be put in a class of really young girls, because you missed the core technique that those students have been learning since they were 4. if you have the money, hire a private tutor, but do your homework first. You want a teacher that is knowlegable in the different art forms and more importantly they need to be practicing safe methods of dance. I know a lot of students that picked an outside trainer and they ended up working too hard and breaking a bone. It wouldnt hurt to visit a few dance schools in the area, see where they think you are at already, where they will place you, and what the cost will be. there are also schools that compete a lot, and some schools like mine, that never competed, but we did a lot of community shows and projects. these are things you will need to ask. Competing is very expensive, and time consuming. you will eat, sleep, live and practice with those people. I would call around some local schools, see what they can do for you, more importantly see where they think you are and how far you can go in the time you have. good luck. What is the best way to start to learn to dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, etc) in your teenage years?
You can really start dance at whatever age you want. It all depends on how hard you are willing to work and if you want to do it for fun. If you want to do it for fun just join your local dance studio. If you want to be really good the first thing you need to do is get into a non-recreational studio. Non-recreational means 4 hours or more a week. You will not start out on their competition team, but will learn a lot. Try your hardest during class and practice at home too. As for ballet, chances are you won't be able to go on pointe because you need at least 2 or 3 years of ballet. You can just work from there. Good luck! :)
Either way you will more likely be with little ones so go to a local dance studio and see what classes they have for your age. If you have no luck try a diff studio or try them all out. That's what i did it was a little embarrassing but it was easy to connect with my instructor and since I tried them all out I found the one I was best at. There are many styles of dance so do the one your best at or the one you like most.
i highly suggest you start dance, its a good way to have fun and keep in shape. its either now or never, becuase once your older you may not have the body to dance anymore. i think you should go to your local studio and ask them if they have classes for older begginners (you dont wanna be a teenager in a kiddie class) and then you can start.

good luck!
take a class! you teacher will tell you everything you need. its that simple!

dancing is never a bad idea.
try taking classes, try just turning on music and grooving to the beat, if you feel the beat just try adding steps to grooving. Also recommend hip - hop or lyrical... and it's worth it...
Give it a shot!!! If you want to do it then try it, what can you lose? You should start by signing up for a class of what ever type you want to take!
Definatly.. Dancing is so much. U shud start by going to dance classes .. And if u mean ud like to take it up professionally then if you feel u would be good enough study it in college or uni! (Its reli not hard to get a place)
go to a dance studio !!!
