a rise? I don't think it's really a rise, the violence has been there it's just making more media attention. I remember growing up, girls would be the major contributor to stats of fighting. Because it's reported more by the media that may be the reason the belief is that there is a rise.
I make no apologies for my answer or the region I grew up in. So really for a real statiticial study all regions need to be a part. But who comes down to some country, out of the way, all black school to make a study of that sort? So to hear those stories on the news was old news to me. I had become desentasized to that information. What do you believe is the main factor for the rise in violence we see today in teenage girls?
Well, for years many parents encouraged their boys to fight since it was assumed that fighting was a natural part of growing up. They were taught to not strike girls, but otherwise, violence amongst their peers was fine.
Girls were encouraged not to fight--it was ';unfeminine';. Now, girls are encouraged to fight, partly as self-defense, but also to be ';like a guy';. Even so, only 1 out of 4 fights in schools are started by girls, and while that is up from 1 out of 10 in the 50s, still overwhemingly the fighters are boys.
We need to teach both sexes to solve their problems in a nonviolent manner, and only teach fighting as self-defense. If girls did not fight as much in the 50s it's only because we told them repeatedly not to. We did not tell that to boys. Now we don't tell them that anymore. What do you believe is the main factor for the rise in violence we see today in teenage girls?
Is there a rise in violence among teenage girls, or just more reporting of it? You're making assumptions, without any facts. I see violence now just like I did in the past among boys and girls and men and women. The US glorifies fighting and killing-look at our movies, our heroes, they are fighters and killers, not peaceful diplomats. You get what you admire-our society mocks the peacemakers, glorifies the killers. I don't see more violence, I see more reporting of it, and better weapons that can kill even faster with the least amount of thought involved. In my suburb, the only killers we've had this past year were wealthy white guys who killed their wives who tried to leave them. How's that for a statistical average. fyi: The teenage girls and boys didn't kill a soul.
Too many bad examples in the world and the media, lack of training by example with love and discipline at home, influenced with others who don't know self control. Feelings of hopelessness because of not knowing God. Feeling that there is no future hope. There positively is an increase in violence and general angry attitudes in the world and with young people, not just teenage girls. I have lived for 56 years, remember the difference, and have worked in elementary and high schools, and there is a big difference from the time when I was their age, around 40 years ago.
Girls used to be fed a strong set of concepts about being ';sugar and spice and everything nice'; but with the idea of stereotyping being swept away, girls are allowed to be just as combative as boys. So, girls are commiting crimes - even violent ones - and they are the terrors of the prison community. Girls also are a-wash in some extremely strong hormones during their menstral cycles, so they have periods of stress and rage during the month and when they are in groups, they tend to fall into sync. So - make the wrong comment to a group of girls on the wrong day and they will beat you with a tire iron now, where before they just talked about it. LOL
Seriously - neither gender of prison guard wants to look after female inmates because they fight more often and more viciously! Prison populations of women are also increasing. Women are no longer feeling social pressue to be nice anymore - so they aren't anymore. Maybe we should have simply started expecting everybody to be nice and crime levels would have gone down, instead?
In case you haven't noticed everyone is more violent today, it isn't just teen aged girls. I blame it on Jerry Springer. He's the one who started all this glorification of reacting to any slight with physical violence. Think about when this increase in fist fighting over every disagreement began. I don't remember people thinking fighting was the answer to all lifes problems before Springer
Lack of belief in a higher power. Albeit God, a bigger girl, etc.
And the fact that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, but that the reaction isn't always right away. Girls have a tendency to hold on to the emotion of an event, much more than guys.
As a guy, once I've dealt with something that bothered me, I simply figure out how to avoid it in the future and try to avoid it, and let the feelings go.
There has been no increase (a small decline though) in violent crimes amoung young men or women for 200 years. This is based off of governmental statistic you can get pretty much anywhere. So, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
most magazines say its the rate teen girls are increasing their binge drinking. most fights ive seen these days are to do with moral issues. girls these days seem to not care if a guy already has a girlfriend and its horrible.
I have no idea why but I can support your claims that there is a rise in violence in teenage girls. When I was in high school, I'd rarely hear about fights between guys but scraps between girls were quite common.
There is no rise in violence in teenage girls.
They are as violent as they ever were.
feminism (the ways of)
alcohol
lack of god, today's society has no sight of morals!
