What is the popular brand skateboard for teenage boys?

My son is turning 12 in July and he is in to skateboarding, so I wanted to get him an awesome skateboard for his birthday. My brother skateboards but I know nothing about it. My son says the almost is the best. I need to know what to get him and what really is the best. What's the difference anyway? Someone please educate me.What is the popular brand skateboard for teenage boys?
before i start:

deck/board= the wooden plank

wheels= the wheels :)

trucks= metal peices that connect the wheels

bearings= things inside the wheels that help it spin

griptape= the sand paper stuff on top of the deck

hardware= the nuts and bolts

risers= pads under the trucks that help absorb impact

if he says Almost is the best, them get him an almost (sounds like that's what he really wants), almost decks are really good and popular...

your brother is probably an ';old school'; skater and might not know whats popular for todays teens.

and chances are even if you got him a better brand, he would like almost more because he feels it's the best and knows about it etc.

Almost is a great Professional brand with cool looking skateboards and a great team... i personally don't prefer almost skateboards, but many people do and there a top of the line really good brand all around

it's all about personal preference, some people say different brands have better ';pop'; ';convave'; ';board feel'; and other skate lingo terms, all Professional brands are pretty much the same good quality

but be sure to get him the right size, if he's 12, go for a 7.5 (7.50), 7.6 (7.60), or 7.75 inch skateboard, thats really important, i would reccomend a 7.6, its only mere tiny fractions of an inch diffrent, only people who skate a lot can tell the diffrence.

ok, now you can go buy an almost skateboard pretty much at any good skate shop.. but if your looking online, ccs.com has an amazing huge selection...

this link is already assembled almost skateboards at ccs.com, its an almost deck with all the parts ready to buy without the hassle

http://shop.ccs.com/catalog/browse/?tree鈥?/a>

depending on how much your son is into skateboarding, he may or may not like the parts on them and might know what he wants, they are pretty good all ';pro'; brands though

OR...

you could go into a skateshop or ccs.com and get a custom complete, meaning you choose all the parts.. guys at the shop could help a lot

you could go here and get what he has on his skateboard if he has one, or ask his friends or your brother whats the best, or choose what you think looks coolest, or get:

an almost deck,

venture, thunder or tensor trucks,

matching wheels or any wheels

and any parts package, lucky or shorties is the best

http://shop.ccs.com/skateboardbuilder/

or you could get him JUST a deck/board (the wood part of a skateboard) if he already has decent parts...

any of these would be great, there all almost boards, look for the sizes in the description boxes

http://shop.ccs.com/catalog/browse/?tree鈥?/a>

and uber lite and impact are diffrent ';technology'; types of almost decks, which is why there the more expensive ones.. the impact is supposed to have layers that make it strong, and uber lite has layers that make it light... i would just get a regular, there cheaper and i would rather get a regular over the other two types even if they were the same price,...

or, you could get your son a 150 dollar giftcard to a skateshop, or take him so he can pick out his own, thats pretty fun to do, and i would like picking out my own because he might like certain brands/styles/colors

but that a really awesome present!

i hope that wasn't to long and confusing, took me forever! good luckWhat is the popular brand skateboard for teenage boys?
almost is a brand. they mostly make decks, wheels and clothing.

skateboards are made up of individual parts:

deck--the wooden plank

grip tape--the sandpaper traction on top of the deck

trucks--the metal base and axles

wheels--wheels lol

bearings--the connector from the wheel to the truck axle that allow the wheels to spin.

you can usually buy a complete skateboard that comes pre-assembled or mix and match the different components to individual preference.

go here and look around and familiarize yourself with parts and brands:

http://shop.ccs.com/catalog/browse/NavCa鈥?/a>

http://skateamerica.com

can't tell you which is the best. all the major brand names are pretty much the same quality so there is no ';best';

boards come in different widths. most common is 7.5, 7.75, 8';. they do sell smaller. but most likely the average 12-yr-old would do best with a 7.5';. the trucks have varying sizes to match the width of the board. for wheels any size will do, really. just get something in the middle sizes
Well, the best is always to get a custom skateboard. It's pretty easy to put together. If you know how to screw together a few parts. You can also have him put it together, and give it to him all separately. That way, it will make it even a more special gift to him, and he can tell his friends that, ';he built his board.'; Some stores also can put it together for you. I'd ask them though, and I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem for them. It would probably take like 10-15 minutes (if that).

Their isn't really a board that is the ';best.'; It's really all preference. Just like everything is. That's why there are companies like Dell and Gateway. Which is better? Neither, really. It's all preference.

If he tells you that Almost boards are the ';best,'; then I'd buy him an Almost board.

If you are wanting to go with buying all the parts separate, it will be a bit more expensive, but you will get the best, that is, if you know what you are choosing. I'd do some research before you do this though.
are you getting him just the deck(actual board), with trunks and wheels, or just the deck. Personally I'm a fan of birdhouse, but go with what your son told you because that will be more inclined to his style.

Deck-has little to do with anything except grip(on top)

trunks(axels)- are for turning styles, grinds, and over all tricks

wheels-are there for varying amounts of traction.

so each one depends on what your son's style is. Is he skating in the street or at a skate park, half pipe or rails, how high can he ollie, how much does he weigh. All those things relate to it. Your best bet is to take him to the shop, let him pick what he wants. But if me must open a gift, a new helmet or some skate shoes will suffice, and he will thank you for letting him choose.
honestly, i would recommend getting some money and takin him to your local zumiez or skateshop or wherever and let him pick out a complete. (everything including deck, wheels, trucks, etc.) can cost around 100 dollars or more depending on what he chooses.

but this makes it more fun for him so he can customize everything that he wants and pick and choose between all the different options. one of the fun things about choosing your new skateboard! Almost is a good brand of skateboard decks if you wanted to get him one. They can cost from $40-60 depending on what you get. also make sure you get the right width of board, maybe ask your bro to find out what your son rides.

hope this helped.
Don't get him an Almost Impact Support skateboard unless he is really good. They're about $60 and they're special because they have support where people usually break their boards, unless hes jumping down a lot of stairs he doesn't need it, I'd suggest a Baker skateboard or a Flip. But if he wants an Almost deck buy him an Almost deck. Just not impact support or you're just wasting money on extra support he doesn't need.
Im not a teenage boy but I ride an Element ..(reason ...its light) I also like Enjoys ... Zero is another brand I like riding ..All skateboards do the same thing ..just some a have more pop , concave, and weight.... basically if you can skate you can skate no matter what you ride ....
I would ask your brother about where to find a good skate shop. Get your son a gift card to that place so he can pick a nice set himself. I am sure they will have clothing there so well - so you can get him a shirt to go with the gift card.
Look it up online.

I recommend www.prolineskates.com as I bought some Ice Skates there once as I am a keen skater. They also sell Skateboards, etc.

Talk to your brother about it and maybe he can buy it for you and you could pay him as he probably knows more about it.

Good Luck!
almost is amazing i recommend the Almost Impact skateboards (type of skateboard made by almost) its really durable and has good pop (how high the board goes)
Baker is the most popular brand.
